After months of preparation and anticipation, the launch of the Big Hoot has us all in a flap. So this week, OWB decided to get out of the office and trail around the city in search of the beautiful creations. Twit twoo indeed.
Our first stop was the OWB owl, proudly decorated to match our branding and the Big Hoot logo, and situated at Millennium Point.
There’s a real buzz of excitement as you walk through the city – so many people are stopping to admire the artwork, and Social Media is chock full of ‘owl selfies’. What’s great about this project is the sense of community it has created: when visiting the Big Hoot store in the Great Western Arcade to purchase a miniature, I spoke to a woman who told me she’d got chatting to several people while out owl spotting, and how nice it was to bond with strangers in the city.
We bumped into a group of employees from the Sea Life Centre in Victoria Square who were beyond excited to get a selfie with their owl – with his snorkel and flippers, he’s one of OWB’s favourites too.
And it wouldn’t be an OWB outing without a few stops along the way – cocktails at the Botanist, then on to new Birmingham restaurant Rub Smokehouse: great cocktails, great atmosphere and epic portions! Give the five-tortilla burrito a go if you’re feeling brave – our Director Shari smashed it!
The owls will be around the city for the next 9 weeks, before they are auctioned off to raise money for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. We’ll see how many we can tick off in that time, and hopefully you can spot the ones that we miss.
